President’s Profile

As President, Mr. Wasif Rizvi is leading the conceptualizing, designing and managing of Habib University as its first President. Under his leadership, Habib University is being established as a world class, research-based, undergraduate university. Mr. Rizvi has managed to build a globally recognized board for building the university and established collaborations with leading global institutions including Carnegie Mellon University and Texas A&M University at Qatar, Stanford University, University of Michigan and Pitzer College. His achievements are visible by the distinguished faculty, well recognized curriculum and an innovative campus design that received accolade through the Social for College and University Planning by being awarded the SCUP Excellence in Planning for New Campus, Merit Award in 2010.

Furthermore, under his leadership as CEO, Habib University Foundation has worked with a community of public and private partners that include City District Government Karachi, Youth Affairs Department – Government of Sindh, British Council, Shell Live Wire Trust, GIZ, and Rotary International for developing innovative youth development projects. One of the Foundation’s key achievements under the leadership of Mr. Rizvi has been the establishment of the Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (iACT) as a public private initiative started in 2007 in collaboration with the City District Government of Karachi (CDGK). iACT is working at facilitating Pakistani youth for a healthy and productive life by focusing on enhancing marketable skills for personal and career growth.

Before joining H.U.F., Mr. Rizvi served as General Manager at Aga Khan Education Services Pakistan, where he was in charge of conceptualizing, designing and implementing educational development programs in schools. He also helped found the Institute for Development Studies and Practices, Quetta and Shikshantar, an institute in India, set up to rethink foundations of education and development in South Asia.

Mr. Rizvi holds a Master’s degree in International Education from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
