Dr. Rahman brings with him a diversified experience of computer science industry and academia; as well as of working in different cultures. He has experience of teaching courses in major streams of computer programming, data structures and algorithms, databases, data warehousing, data mining, data science, and big data technologies. Furthermore, Dr. Rahman has vast experience of supervising undergraduate projects and postgraduate research. He relishes the sense of achievement that his teaching efforts are bringing benefits to his students and thus will in-turn result in the betterment of our society.

As a researcher, Dr. Rahman is involved in design and development of customizable and autonomous DBMS since 2007, which was also the theme for his Ph.D. research. The topic of his Ph.D. dissertation is “Cellular DBMS: Customizable and autonomous data management using a RISC-style architecture”. He completed his Ph.D. degree under supervision of Prof. Dr. Gunter Saake at the database research group, Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg, Germany in 2011. Since December 2011, he has supervised many research studies and thesis in the areas of data management, data mining, data science, and graph data processing. Dr. Rahman also has around seven years of industry experience of information system design and development using many commercial DBMS. He gained this experience during his employment at Maritime technologies complex, NESCOM, Pakistan.

Research Interests

Dr. Rahman’s research interests include database architectures, self-tuning databases, column-oriented databases, in-memory databases, data warehousing, data mining, graph data management, big data technologies, and data sciences. He possesses good understanding of database architectures and implementations. He has good expertise in many programming languages including C/C++, Java, C#, and Python. During four years of his PhD, he was working on prototype development of his research database named Cellular DBMS using C/C++ programming language. He also has strong implementation skills to develop working systems.
