Assistant Professor, Social Development and Policy
School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
At Habib University, Dr. Muhr aspires to contribute to the transdisciplinary thematic and methodological strengths of the Social Development and Policy program as well as the University’s overall vision of setting a new international standard for interdisciplinary liberal arts education. In this, Dr. Muhr can draw from a 3-decade experience as a teacher, lecturer, researcher and consultant in diverse socio-cultural settings in Latin America-Caribbean and Europe. A particular concern of his is to develop students’ appreciation that comprehending today’s globalized world requires transcending disciplinary boundaries and conventional ontological, epistemological and methodological tools.
Prior to joining Habib University, Dr. Muhr held Adjunct Professorships in Sociology and Development Studies at different European universities, including Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany), Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), and the University of Vienna (Austria). In 2009/2010 he held a post-doctoral research position in Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Bristol (UK), sponsored via a highly competitive UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarship. From 2015-2018 he is also Honorary Assistant Professor at the Centre for International Education Research (CIER) at the University of Nottingham (UK). His academic achievements include memberships of the UK Research Council (RCUK) Peer Review College (2010-2015), of the editorial board of the Routledge journal Globalizations, and of international research networks (e.g., the CLACSO Caribbean Working Group).
